  • Party Tip: Art Brussels: The Party

    (© Daniel Riera)

“Burn / For the art of parties / Burn / Under the heavy weather,” David Sylvian sang with Japan in the 1980s. Our weather is slowly but surely improving. But combining art and parties remains a tricky affair. The Catclub party concept wants to put an end to that once and for all.

  • Olympus Has Fallen

Who on earth was hoping for the revival of the patriotic American popcorn pulp movie of the Independence Day type? The phenomenon appeared to have been buried along with the victims of 9/11, but has now resurfaced. This summer, specialist Roland Emmerich is releasing White House Down, but this week we are being subjected to Olympus Has Fallen.

  • Autre Ne Veut: Anxiety

  • 11.6

If you are going to steal, then do it right. In November 2009 the French security van-driver Toni Musulin, without shedding even a drop of blood, made off with €11.6 million. A few days later, he gave himself up. Right now, he is serving a five-year jail sentence; €2.5 million of the loot has never been found. Was it about more than money?

  • The Host

The Host, which is aimed at young audiences, is not particularly high-quality science fiction. But I wouldn’t just dump this film adaptation of a book by Twilight author Stephenie Meyer out with the trash.

  • Ibrahim Maalouf: beelden blazen

    (© Denis Rouvre)

  • The Grandmaster

I go weak at the knees at the mention of Wong Kar-wai. A Pavlovian reaction that has its roots in wonderfully beautiful, melancholic films like Happy Together and In the Mood for Love. The Hong Kong romantic, aesthete, and perfectionist spent an age putting the finishing touches to The Grandmaster. But it has not turned out to be the masterpiece one would expect from this great master.

  • The animal kingdom of Pascal Lemaître

Anyone passing through the Renbaanlaan/avenue de l’Hippodrome in Elsene/Ixelles might have noticed some increase in activity near the crossing with the avenue Géo Bernier. Since a few months the brand-new collective Module Image has been occupying the small space at number 67.

  • Grace Ellen Barkey & the magic mushroom party

    (© Phile Deprez)

When Needcompany’s Grace Ellen Barkey goes to work on a bunch of mushrooms with the visual artist Lot Lemm and the legendary US anonymous avant-garde group the Residents, it just has to lead to the acceptance of all fungi.

  • RANDgeval: Sam Dillemans

  • Harun Farocki: images of the world

    (Bilder der Welt)

Le P’tit Ciné, Bozar Cinema, Argos, Cinéma Nova, and the Goethe Institute are all joining forces to pay homage to the work of Harun Farocki.
