The folks at the Anima Festival, the International Animation Film Festival of Brussels, are already busy working on the next edition, which will take place from 28 February to 9 March 2014 in Flagey. Right now, they are looking for both short and long animated films for the various competitions. There are no restrictions on style or subject matter and student films are eligible too. The only condition is that the film must have been made after 30 June 2012.

You can apply at www.animafestival.be, where you can consult the full rules. The deadline for registration is 1 October 2013.

Le festival urbain Plazey dépoussière son image néerlandophone en s’ouvrant davantage à la communauté internationale qui vit autour du Parc Élisabeth. Le pari semblait réussi dès dimanche dernier avec de la boxe pour enfants de plus de 6 ans grâce à la Brussels Boxing Academy.

Julius Knipl: Real Estate Photographer, The Jew of New York, Hand-Drying in America... The American comic strip artist Ben Katchor is one of the most sharp-witted, imaginative, and funny yet sharp graphic storytellers around. On the occasion of the recent French translation of his graphic novel "The Cardboard Valise", ESA Saint-Luc Bruxelles and book shop Tropismes have invited Katchor for an illustrated lecture on nation building in Outer Canthus.

Un an après la 1^e édition de Pic Nic the Streets, 2.000 manifestants ont débarqué dimanche dernier à la Bourse. Comme il est envisagé que la place de la Bourse devienne éventuellement un piétonnier après 2015, ils comptent maintenir la pression et ont donc réitéré leur demande d'être impliqués dans le réaménagement de la place.

On June 7 and 8, students of the renowned La Cambre Mode[s] fashion school will be showing their design and stylist skills on the runway at Les Halles in Schaarbeek/Schaerbeek. A fashion show is nerve-racking as it is for any designer, but during this particular event, tension will be even higher as all creations are part of the students’ exams.

 

Two neighbouring yet very different worlds reaching out to each other, that's just what the cross-disctricts Matonge-Europe Festival is about. The initiative of GC Elzenhof, Kuumba, the Brussels-Europe Liaison Office and t.r.a.n.s.i.t.s.c.a.p.e intends to boost encounters between residents and users of Matonge and the European quarter. Until 9 June the two communities will meet during a city itinerary, a parade, a concert, a bal moderne, a freestyle football tournament, and a forum about the clichés that make up the differences installed by invisible borders.

Today, from 6 to 8 pm the colourful, jovial, noisy, and mixed Frites Sauce Manioc parade (starting at Kuumba, rue de la Paix 35) will be officially opening the festival!!

Tijdens het 66e Festival van Cannes regende het goede films. Dat net iets minder films dan verhoopt uitstekend waren, werd goedgemaakt door het uitzonderlijke La vie d’Adèle. Deze zinderende, zinnelijke liefdesfilm van Abdellatif Kechiche won de Gouden Palm.

Chez Europalia, on ne se tourne pas les pouces: alors même qu’on est encore en pleins préparatifs de l’édition de cette année, consacrée à l’Inde, on annonce déjà que la Turquie sera le pays invité de l’édition de 2015, quand ce festival biennal fêtera sa 25e édition. Le C.A. explique que la Turquie, en tant que « État négociant son adhésion à l’U.E. et au croisement des cultures (...) [est] le candidat idéal pour fêter cet anniversaire ». Ce choix offre en outre une occasion unique de renforcer les liens avec les communautés turques qui résident en Belgique et dans d’autres pays européens. Mais d’ici là, vous aurez d’abord droit à Europalia Inde, qui se tiendra pendant quatre mois à partir du 26 janvier prochain, avec des expositions telles que Corps de l’Inde et Indomania à Bozar, ainsi que que plein de cinéma Bollywood, de danse, de théâtre et de musique.
